Buck Inn investigation, Newtown Saturday 10th Jan 2009 10.00pm-3am Archie's report Note : 3 of unexplained Wales team took part on this investigation while part of another investigation team, We felt that it would be worthy of adding to our site. Investigation team – Wayne, Jolene And myself (Archie). We arrived at the Buck Inn at 10.00pm. The team were introduced to the owner of the pub, and he led us through a doorway, upstairs to the private part of the building. The Buck Inn is, apparently, dated from at least the 17th century, although there seems to be little historical information available before the mid 1800's. It is a brick and wooden beam construction, and painted Tudor style black and white, inside and out.
On going up the first flight of stairs, to a small landing, halfway to the next floor, I felt a strange sensation, a tingling / prickly feeling over my face, scalp and neck. We also noted that although the stairwell was quite warm, there seemed to be a cold draught going around us (although it should be mentioned that I could see small gaps in the wall to the outside, where the black wooden beams adjoined the brickwork, possibly allowing small draughts). We all went through to the kitchen and some of the team prepared to get the investigation equipment ready (digital thermometer, infra-red thermometer, digital video camera, another video camera to be left mounted on a tripod, an EMF meter, voice recorders, and a large digital video camera with a night vision attachment – as well as these, most of the members carried their own personal digital camera's). The private dwelling area consisted of 3 floors (including the ground floor, which was the pub itself) The second floor held a small kitchen, a large living room (with a small bedroom adjoining it) and a larger bedroom.
The third floor consisted of two large rooms (the first mainly a storage area), and adjoining this was a large room, previously used as a play area. In this room was a double wardrobe, that was against the wall, to hide a small opening. This opening led to a space approximately 5ft x 4ft x 4ft high. This was 'fitted' inside, as a 'den' or 'hidey hole' – it had drapes on the walls, pillows on the floor, and some children's toys scattered about. The owner told us that his children had, recently, been really frightened in this room one day while playing in there, and he found one of them screaming, and hiding behind the window curtains. Since that day, he had not let the children play in that room. It was noted that attached to the wall of this room was a baby alarm / sound system, and in the past, strange noises had been heard through this monitor. The team split into two investigation groups - Group 1 –Names removed as requested Group 2 – Wayne, Jolene and Archie went to the second floor. Group two investigation Wayne sat on the bed in the small bedroom adjoining the living room. It was decided to use a pair of Dowsing rods, and after asking questions to ascertain 'yes' and 'no' responses with them, he then started to ask questions, directed to any spirit that may be present. Jolene sat on the carpet, recorded the event on a digital video recorder, another member stood to the side of us, taking temperature readings throughout. The responses seemed quite weak in the small bedroom, so we moved into the living room. After a few questions, Wayne asked Archie if he would ask the questions while he (Wayne) was using the rods. This seemed to result in better / stronger responses. We then moved to the large bedroom, but the responses were disappointing. Results in the Living room and small bedroom (second floor)
At this point we had a short break and went down to the pub and had a drink and a cigarette break. After ½ an hour, still in the same groups, we swapped with the other group, and went up to the top (third) floor. We decided to start in the room that the children had been afraid in. Again, Wayne held the dowsing rods, and Archie asked questions. After 4 – 5 minutes I asked for a small break, as I felt totally drained, slightly dizzy and a headache that was seeming to make me nauseous.
As I stood there with my eyes closed, regaining my strength, with my back leaning on the side of the large wardrobe, I suddenly had a 'flash' picture come into my head. It seemed to be a pattern, embossed, almost like flock wallpaper. The colours were quite vivid – navy blue ¼ inch 'c' shaped blobs, scattered randomly, on a creamy white background. I did not recall seeing any patterns like this while in the pub (there was little in the way of wallpaper patterns, as most of the walls were painted white with black or brown wooden beams). As well as me feeling drained, I noted that Wayne started to yawn uncontrollably. He asked if anyone else would like to have a go with the dowsing rods. Another member agreed to have a go. After a short explanation on how to use them correctly, we started again, with me asking the questions. The responses given to the questions asked, were very strong in this room, and it was apparent that a male entity was answering the questions. Results in the children's play room (top floor)
At this point we called a halt as the responses seemed to be getting very weak, and went through to the large room outside.. The results in this room seemed very weak. We then went back downstairs to regroup, and compare results. After a short break, the owner had now closed the pub, came up to us and we all had a chat, and discussed the things we had found. We had a while down in the pub itself, where we took more pictures in the bar area, but I must admit I felt totally drained, and it was all I could do to keep awake. We were shown the pub cellar, the entrance of which was situated outside in a small courtyard. We went back up to the middle floor and talked about the results we had. I told the owner that in my opinion, the spirits within the building were happy with him being there, and I did not think that there was anything to worry about. It was noted that the double iron bed in the master bedroom had moved sideways when we went back in there, by approximately 2 inches. The imprint of where the bed leg had originally been was evident on the carpet, and the carpet was slightly rucked up.
Addendum When we left the pub at approximately 3.15am I was feeling totally washed out, and was not really looking forward to the drive home. But as we said our goodbyes and I walked away, as I walked round the corner of the road, I felt all of the weariness just lift from me, and felt totally refreshed as if I had just had a full nights sleep. We will meet up at a later date to look at our collective results, and find if anything has been recorded as evidence. On looking at the pictures taken with my personal digital camera, I was disappointed to see that there were no anomalies on them, but a couple of days later, I managed to download the photo's onto my computer, and when blown to full screen, nearly all of the photo's had 'orbs' on them. This is a true and accurate report of events, to the best of my recollection.
